Abstract

The issue of empowerment of disabled women has always been forefront of political debates; it may seem a routine affair but till date desired results are awaited. In our country, 2.68 Cr population is disabled from which 56% are males and 44% females. The Constitution of India provides fair play field by assuring equality, freedom, justice and dignity of all people of society including person with disabilities. Empowerment is a process of accommodating excluded with every sphere of society specially those women who are having disabilities. To achieve this objective, various initiatives have been undertaken by the Indian Government for empowering disabled women. This has been led to the adoption of National Policy of 2006 and 2016. But, at grass root level, the position of disabled women has not improved much. The present paper aims to evaluate the government policies for empowering women with disabilities and suggest measures to overcome loopholes.
